At last I have made my way back to Australia. Europe has been a lot of fun but there is nothing like a home cooked meal and sleeping in your own bed. Being back has also given me the chance to catch up with fellow golfers. Hearing about the progression in their games, making tweaks here and there, all in the aim of lowering scores; everyone has been busy over the last five months.
I am also mindful that I need to keep my practice up and my game sharp as I still have two tournaments left on the European Legends Tour. One in the Seychelles and one in Mauritius – the latter being the Tour Championship. So over the last couple of weeks I took the opportunity to head to Sydney to play some Aussie Legends Tour events.
The first event was the Australian Senior PGA championship which is the flagship event on Australian Legends Tour and was broadcast on Fox and Kayo. I made a run at the title in the final round shooting a tournament low round of 64 but I ultimately fell two shots short and finished third. The rest of the week was made up of one day pro ams which are basically “dashes for cash” (18 holes and make as many birdies as you can with as few mistakes as possible). Overall, I was quite satisfied, with 4 top 10’s out of 7 events.
My favourite course over the two weeks was Shelly Beach with its beautiful views of the coastline. I always look forward to playing The Australian GC having played many Australian Opens there over the years. Castle Hill CC, where I played in numerous Cannon Challenges in the late 90’s and early 2000’s, has under gone renovations but I was still able to reminisce over some of the shots I played all those years ago. The trip was not only enjoyable but also meant I am keeping my game sharp and ready for my last two events of the European schedule.
So back to Perth, where my focus will be on giving lessons over the next couple of weeks before jumping on a plane again. It has been a busy year but like I say in my lessons “also enjoyable”. I will be back at Wembley mid December and in time for anyone looking to improve their game over the Xmas holiday period. To book a lesson or even 9 holes with me visit michaellonggolf.com.
